BISERICA BAPTISTA SUSANI

This is very typical of small "non-orthodox" village churches..... this one is the Susani Baptist Church (our friend Ovidiu is the pastor). 

IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR

1912.... a very good year for steeples! 

LOST IN THE COURTYARD

This simple church is hidden behind a gate on a busy street in Caransebes. 

THE 700 YEAR OLD CHURCH

The "Reformed Church of Sanamaria Orlea" was built in the 13th century. This long-empty gem sits on a Romanian highway that leads towards the Retezat Mountains. 

If these walls could only talk....... 

This shot gives the full view of the church and it's gate. It's location in this tiny village tells us a story of what used to be. 

THE PETROSANI SAMPLER

Petrosani is a beautiful little town nestled in the Retrezat Mountains. This "street of steeples" is located there. 

Standing tall and straight among the trees! 

This one sits up on a hill in the middle of Petrosani and is an unusual brown, instead of the customary white. 

THE WHITE HOUSE

This Orthodox church seems to be in the new "modern style" I'm seeing often. The village, Sofronea, is just outside of Arad. As usual, even the smallest village has a grand cathederal. 

VINGA'S MASTERPIECE

This beauty sits high atop a hill in the village of Vinga, surrounded by quaint red-roofed houses. Everrytime we ride through, I say "One day, I'm taking a picture because this is the prettiest church yet." Finally got one!

This is a great Orthodox Catherderal in Lugoj, a city in Timis county. 

MONASTERY CHAPEL

This sweet little chapel is simple outside but incredibly ornate inside ...like most of them. It is in the village of Sag, just outside of the city. We were there for the wedding of some friends ...see the little girl in blue? She belongs to me.

You've got to love this simple church ....a train bridge in front and the outhouse in the side yard ...VERY common in these small villages.
